Week 7: Birthday parties galore!

This weekend we had the good fortune to celebrate the birthdays of two sweet little ladies. Quinn's friend "J" just turned 6, and Nolan's little lady friend "R" is now 3. Both of their parties took place this weekend, so I got to whip up some birthday presents.

Now for Nolan's friend, I immediately knew what I wanted to make. Her family has chickens and both my boys loved feeding them when they were invited over for a playdate last summer. Hence, the chicken pillow.

I found the pattern here.

I made the "comb" differently so it would flop around, which I thought was fun.

Overall, it's 18" square. I loved the red and white polka dots.

It has an envelope style back, so the cover will slip off easily if it needs to be washed.
Happy Birthday sweet girl!

For Quinn's friend, the week got away from me and I ended up waiting until the last minute (hate that!)

I had made these pinwheel blocks about a year ago and forgot about them. I decided to put make her a little quilt that she could use for her dolls, or whatever she wanted.

Ugh, can't figure out how to rotate this. Can you see the flaw? My pinwheels aren't all going in the right direction! Ahhh!

I didn't have enough blocks to make a square so I added a ninth block with her initial.

It has a layer of batting and a fleece back.

Not how I usually do it, but it worked.

I have gotten quite a bit done on this long weekend. My wall hanging has been basted and quilted, and I'm about a third of the way through the hand binding.

I've got a wedding present finished and ready to get out. Hopefully I can post on that soon.

Tomorrow I should be able to stop at the fabric store and search for the perfect back for the purple & white quilt.

I also need to get more batting since I'm nearly out and will definitely need more soon.

Tomorrow will be busy. We're hoping to get in a hospital tour, visit to the fabric store, meet up with Ben's cousin, and I have an appointment with my midwife. Quinn's coming along and is looking forward to hearing the baby's heartbeat. I can't wait to see his sweet face when he hears it for the first time.
